Zoning
No it doesn’t require a trip to your local land use planning commission! Instead it is a new approach to energy-efficient heating and cooling in your home.
Just think, if every time you turned on a tap in your home, every sink or tub flowed with water? Or that every light switch or electrical plug used resulted in every light in your home turning on? It wouldn’t be very efficient or safe would it? Well, most home heating systems work on an all or nothing basis.
Zoning your heating system allows you to choose which rooms to heat and when. This results in more efficient use of energy and LOWER ENERGY BILLS!
Our Zoning System allows you to divide your home’s ductwork into zones that are independently controlled by you. Your family will be more comfortable and you will save money by heating only the rooms you are using.
Air Conditioner Types
- Room Air Conditioners –
Designed to cool one room rather than
an entire house.
- Efficiency – usually lower than central air
- Effectiveness – good if used for just the one room
- Cost – usually lower than central air
- Central Air Conditioners –
Most common cooling systems in homes
providing cool air through a system
of supply and return air ducts. Generally,
there are two kinds available:
- Split-system Central Air Conditioner – contains an outdoor cabinet that houses the condenser and compressor. The indoor cabinet contains the evaporator. If your home has a central furnace but no air conditioner, a split-system is generally the most economical system to install.
- Packaged Central Air Conditioner – This system houses the evaporator, condenser, and compressor all in one cabinet. Usually, it is placed on the roof or concrete slab next to the building. Often, these systems include electric heating coils or a natural gas furnace. The combination of the central heater and air conditioner eliminates the need for a separate indoor furnace.
- Evaporative Coolers –
Also called a “swamp” cooler works
completely differently from central
air systems. Often used for its effectiveness
in hot, dry climates, these units
cool outdoor air by evaporation and
blow it inside the building creating
a cooling effect – similar to the
manner in which the human body cools
itself through perspiration. Buildings
that utilize this type of system operate
it with windows partially opened to
allow warm indoor air to escape as
it is replaced by cooler air. Cost
of this system is about one-half of
a central air system and use one-quarter
the energy, but require more frequent
maintenance and are most suitable
for desert or low humidity climates
Air Conditioning
Former Greenville Mayor Bill Workman often talks about the economic revolution that air conditioning brought to the South. Southern home owners know the importance of air conditioning for providing comfort and health to their family. Unfortunately, many home owners don’t call for service until the system doesn’t work.Interestingly, some air conditioning problems can DOUBLE operating costs. The importance of regular system check ups can reduce the failure of compressors and motors by as much as 80%. Five Star Plumbing Heating Cooling’s Whole House Check Up will identify expensive system leaks in your air conditioning reducing your operating costs and saving you money on energy bills. As the doctor always says, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
